A bit of sun.

Finally! Sun! Warmer temps! I can hardly stand how long this winter has felt. And just when I thought I was going to go crazy, we get over 20 inches of snow dumped on us! Which resulted in a snow day from work….so I guess I shouldn’t complain about that one. I have spent way too much time this winter curled up in bed, watching mindless tv, or just pigging out on pizza. But finally……..SUN! I think the temps were down in the teens last week, and then 60 degrees yesterday! It felt so so good to get out and run finally. Even if my running pants seem to be fitting pretty snug suddenly. Fortunately, my work has a gym/locker room, so at lunch I headed out for a run in my work neighborhood, which consists of running past Soldier Field, the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, and Shedd Aquarium. I really couldn’t ask for a better route.
I love how friendly all the runners are. I generally see a lot of the same people each time I go out. Even though they are probably thinking ‘oh gosh there’s that creepy girl again who’s always staring us down and waving – run faster.’

…but until I’m ready to move out of downtown, my parent’s will suffice. It was so beautiful this weekend – lots of sun this afternoon mixed with a little bit of warm rain. We all went out back to enjoy a little spring weather, even vampire cat Larry, whom I was promptly greeted by this weekend with a locked kitty jaw on my hand. That cat seems so so lovey, until all at once – ATTACK! Evil cat…

Back in the mitten state for the weekend and thoroughly enjoying it. Warm weather and sunshine, plenty of green everywhere – a nice change of pace. I spent the morning watching my dad coach the Hastings varsity softball team at a tournament in Allendale. Not their best games, but still looking good! Makes me miss playing. The slow pitch beer leagues I’m on now just don’t quite have the same pace. So nice to spend a sunny afternoon outside with the family. Shortly after, however, we snuck in a little mall time which was sorely needed. My credit card is still weeping. It’s ok little guy, we have lots of nice (and much needed, I tell myself) things now!

I am love, loving these gals right now. Two teenage sisters hailing from Sweden singing some folky tunes.
I was so excited to find out they are coming to Schuba’s in June. Tickets = purchased. Can’t wait, they’re pretty amazing! Very cool video, great cover, love this one too…
In other news, I have pretty sensitive skin and think I accidentally rubbed some new face lotion over my eyelid before I went to bed last night. Woke up with my right eye swollen almost shut. And when my eyelids swell, it looks like they are retaining a half cup of water. Not pretty. Needless to say, I am spending the day at work today looking like Sloth from the Goonies. But enough woe is me-ing… Have a great day!

Couple BIG wins this weekend for MSU! And a couple big days at the bar cheering em on! Can’t wait for the game on Saturday. We’ve had a couple good sized groups over at Mahoney’s – a MSU bar conveniently located two blocks from my apt. And there has been tons of cheering and lots of dancing. Bad, horrible, cringeworthy dancing.
Looking nervous….

Boy, oh boy, do I love these boots. I found them at DSW last week and have not been able to take them off! I get so excited when I come across such a great find. Unfortunately, I’m like a little kid and think I need to wear such find every single day. I’m just getting over a two and a half month black Jones New York zip up sweater addiction. I figured wearing it to work 4 out of 5 days every week was starting to get noticeable. Anywho, wanted to post a picture because they put me in a good mood every time I put them on.

Casting Creations
Posted by shellinthecity under Crafting, Out & about in the city, UncategorizedLeave a Comment
I just finished my second class at Lil Street Art Center – which is one of the coolest places in Chicago. We learned how to carve and mold wax, all the steps of making a mold and were able to cast our own pieces. The actual casting kind of scared the crap out of me because of the giant flame you are using (I am not good with fire), not to mention shooting liquid hot metal into your spinning mold. But I’mvery glad I did it myself! I’m so excited about the rings I made. They are actually pieces I like and wear every day – unlike most of the stuff I made in my first class – oh well, it was my first time.

After a couple month hiatus from the blog due to just plain being busy, I’m looking forward to taking some time to get out around the city and take some more pictures of all the great things going on. Have a great day!!
