Just got back from a long wonderful weekend in Oak Island, NC.  Nine of us girls packed into a cute little beach house right on the ocean and couldn’t have had a better time – or better weather.  We had nothing planned, no sites to see, etc.  Just completely relaxed, hanging out on the beach enjoying some girl time.  It’s been a long time since I’ve been somewhere like that where there are no big hotels and busy streets lining the beach.  It was nice!  And very inexpensive.  At only $66 per girl for the entire weekend in the house, it couldn’t be beat.  (I wonder what the cockroaches were being charged – yeah, there were a few – oh well.) Here are a few of my favorite pics of the weekend.  How was your Memorial Day weekend?

Here are some pictures from my trip to the San Diego Zoo.  I think they give these animals Red Bull in the morning because they were all going crazy playing and jumping around.  It was fun to watch.

This guy came running by me which is why his head is missing. I liked how it was an action shot though. 🙂

After a fun couple of days in Hastings over Christmas, it only took me four airports and twelve hours of travel to make it to the great state of California.  I had a full week in Cali to explore and relax, and had a great time doing so.  Temps weren’t quite as high as I would have liked – upper 50’s – but it was MUCH nicer there than it was in Chicago/Michigan – so no complaints.   I ended up spending about 4 days in Fresno (in the city for 2, and up the mountain for the other 2), New Years in Santa Barbara (great shopping!) with friends Judy and Marcus, and a few extra days in San Diego, which I loved!! Here are a couple collages of picture from each city.  I think I’ll post my San Diego Zoo pictures tomorrow!  Hope everyone had a great holiday and a good first, or second, day back at work!  Happy New Year!

When you’re spending a lot of time in the car with your family over the holidays, and you’re not all that great at remembering the words to songs on the radio… a fun thing to do is whistle every note of each song as a duet with your mom for the entire trip.  Little brothers greatly appreciate it.

Goodbye pillow sewing, hello jammie pants!  I took another sewing class the other weekend and learned the art of making pajama pants.  It took about 4 hours to make this pair, but that also included re-learning all the basics again.  It was lots of fun and I can’t wait to take another class.

I went shopping this weekend in Wicker Park / Bucktown at all the boutiques and found lots of great things I’d like to learn how to make.  Those stores are so fun to shop in and are full of clothes/jewelry from local artists.

I also knitted this scarf this weekend.  It’s been at least a year since I have knitted, but it came back pretty quickly.  If you need a scarf, let me know! 🙂  I love this yarn – Wool Ease – so warm!

Stay warm and have a great Christmas!! I’m hoping to get some great pictures over the holidays!

Hooray!  My own first full size Christmas tree!  If you notice, the lights are spaced out perfectly even throughout the tree………because it came that way.  And if I push a little button on the the bottom, I can make it rotate!  I only have decorations for the front half, so it will probably just stay stationary this year.  Maybe next! Thanks again for the great stockings Aunt Chris!

Zach put the finishing touches on the tree by adding 2 year old candycanes.  I thought it looked pretty nice.  I wonder if you can still eat those?  I’ll let someone else test that out.

To explain the other half of this post’s title – I found out first hand that it’s freakin’ slippery out!  Sidewalks, streets, pretty much everything, has a thin layer of ice.  Like a millimeter of ice – you can hardly tell it’s there.  Which is why I wasn’t being very cautious while crossing the street this morning.  I live a block off Michigan Ave, so there’s quite a bit of car traffic and people traffic in the morning.  Like usual, I needed to hustle my bum off to make it to the bus, so I ignored that blinking red hand, put a little hop in my step and tried to quickly make it across the street.  Wham bam, I’m sprawled out in the middle of the street.  Scraped up knee, embarrassment setting in, but not a drop of coffee spilled – heck yeah.

Now this was not my first rodeo.  I started to think about some of my better falls and came up with my top three on the way to work.

1.  About three weeks ago we were having our usual Wednesday free lunch at work.  It was a nice little deal – salad, pasta salad, and about 10 different pizzas – I tried about 5, and loaded up on the extras.  The cafeteria is on the 3rd floor, my cube is on the 4th.  I thought I’d get some work done while I ate so I headed upstairs.  There are a bunch of tables all around the stairs – all full of course.  I got to the VERY LAST STEP.  My size 10’s got stuck on the step, I went down, food went down – nobody even offered to help.  I think everyone was so embarrassed for me they thought it’d be better to pretend they didn’t see me.  Needless to say I loaded up another plate and gave it another go.  A girl’s gotta eat.

2. I was walking along outside with a friend in high school.  He already thought I was a huge klutz, so this was no big surprise to him.  I was a step or so behind him and thought I’d give him a little tripski.  So I swing my foot out to catch his heel when he took a step.  Never even touched him.  He looks back about 3 seconds later to see what I’m doing. Face planted.  Served me right.

3.  Wendy’s came out with some ridiculous new sandwich.  Extra patties, extra cheese, extra bacon.  I was excited.  I think I was actually jogging to the front door, I just had a little detour while getting to it.  Face down by the curb in front of the drive through line.  I no longer get so excited about trans fat.

Hope you are having a great week!  And watch out for that ice!

Hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving!  I just made it back into the city mid day and was surprised there was no snow!  It was pure white when we left Michigan and I’m actually looking forward to getting hit with some here.  It’d be even better if my job had snow days – a major perk of teaching!

Tonight we’re doing a little Christmas decorating around the condo.  Only three and a half weeks! Have you started your shopping?  I think I’ll do a little this weekend and check out all the lights and decorations around town.  Gonna be busy on Michigan Ave!  Here are some pictures of Thanksgiving in Midland.
